Online courses: How does it work?

  • Each course uses a course website that contains:
    • 5 - 10 theory presentations with on-demand video and downloadable pdf files. 
    • 15 - 25 exercises with on-demand video, downloadable data sets and documented R code.
    • A Discussion Board where you can ask course-related questions.
    • Live chat facilities for short questions.
    • Recorded Zoom sessions from previous courses are available to watch (for most courses).
  • Live interaction.
    • All courses include a 1-hour face-to-face video chat with the instructors. You can ask questions about your own data.
    • You can request 4 times a 30 minutes video chat with the instructors and ask questions related to the course material.
    • Live interaction needs to take place within 6 months after being given access to the course website.
  • General info.
    • You can start a course at any time.
    • Each course will run as a 'Live Zoom course' once or twice per year.
    • The workload of each course is about 40 hours.
    • A certificate  (pdf file) will be provided upon completing the course.
    • Zoom summary sessions for most online Live courses will take place at 09.30-11.30 and 19.00-21.00 British time.

  • November 2021: In-house course for Inland Fisheries Ireland: Introduction to R using a protocol for conducting and presenting results of regression-type analyses.
  • November 2021: In-house course for the University of Helsinki, Finland: Introduction to zero-inflated GLMs and GLMM. Using frequentist tools.
  • November 2021: In-house course for IMR, Norway: Introduction to zero-inflated GLMs and GLMM. Using frequentist tools.
  • December 2021: In-house course for Wageningen University, The Netherlands: Introduction to zero-inflated GLMs and GLMM. Using frequentist tools.
  • December 2021: In-house course for SEA: Introduction to Data Exploration, regression, GLM, and linear mixed-effects models.
  • January 2022: Open course: Data Exploration, Regression, GLM & GAM with an introduction to R.
  • February 2022: Open course: Mixed-effects models and GLMM using nlme, lme4, and glmmTMB.
  • March-April 2022: Open course: Introduction to zero-inflated GLMs and GLMM. Using frequentist tools.
  • April 2022: In-house course at the University of Helsinki, Finland: Data Exploration, Regression, GLM & GAM with introduction to R.
  • April-July 2022: Further open courses will be scheduled on these topics:
    • Spatial models using R-INLA.
    • Zero-inflated GLM, GAM, GLMM and GAMM for the analysis of spatial and spatial-temporal correlated data using R-INLA.
  • August: Open course on multivariate time series analysis using R-INLA.

In-house courses are only accessible for students and members of staff from the organizing institute. These typically run from 09.00-16.00 local time.
