Online courses: How does it work?

  • Course website. All courses use a course website that contain:
    • 5 - 10 theory presentations (on-demand video and also downloadable pdf files). 
    • 15 - 25 exercises (on-demand video, with downloadable data sets and documented R code).
    • A Discussion Board where you can ask course-related questions.
    • Live chat facilities for short questions.
    • Recorded Zoom sessions from previous 'Live' online courses are available to watch.
    • Access to the course website is for 6 months.
  • Live interaction.
    • All courses include a 1-hour face-to-face video chat with the instructors. You can ask questions about your own data.
    • You can request 4 times a 30 minutes video chat with the instructors and ask questions related to the course material.
    • Live interaction needs to take place within 6 months after being given access to the course website.
  • General info.
    • You can start an online course at any time.
    • Each online course will run as a 'Live Zoom course' once or twice per year.
    • The workload of each course is about 40 hours.
    • A certificate  (pdf file) will be provided upon completing the course.
    • Zoom summary sessions for most online Live courses will take place at 09.00-11.00 and 19.00-21.00 British time.

 

Schedule of Live courses

  • December 2021:Introduction to zero-inflated models and GLMM using glmmTMB.
  • January 2022: Data Exploration, Regression, GLM & GAM with an introduction to R.
  • February 2022: Mixed-effects models and GLMM using nlme, lme4, and glmmTMB.
  • March 2022: Spatial models using R-INLA.
  • April 2022: Zero-inflated GLM, GAM, GLMM and GAMM for the analysis of spatial and spatial-temporal correlated data using R-INLA.
  • June 2022: Multivariate time series analysis using R-INLA.

Interaction between participants and instructors:

  • A live chat box can be used for shorter questions related to the course material.
  • You can request 5 times a 30 minutes video chat with the instructors and ask questions related to the course material.
  • The course fee includes a 1-hour face-to-face video chat with the instructors. You can ask questions related to your own data or to the course.

Extension of 1 month
When you sign up for a course, you will be given access to a course website for 6 months. You will also get a 1-hour face-to-face statistical consultancy session with the instructors; this needs to take place within 3 months (after obtaining access to the course website). All R solution files and pdf files are downloadable. However, video files are on-demand and cannot be downloaded.

If you need longer access to the course website (or your access has already expired), then you can purchase a 1-month extension. The extension also allows you to schedule the 1-hour consultancy session in case you have not used it yet. Note: This extension does not give you an extra 1-hour consultancy session. Once the 1-month extension has expired, you can purchase another 1-month extension.
